A Special Technique:
To keep my students engaged and to gain their attention back, I used a special technique. When we were doing circle time or discussing new material and students were a little talkative, I was saying "Cheburashka" to them. It's a character from a Russian cartoon with big ears. They all loved it!
Rewarding Students:
I love positive rewards! It might be just an oral praise or a small reward. Sometimes some rewards don't work, and I have to look for new ones. Besides stickers and PBIS tickets, some of the rewards are to have a lunch with me or take a toy from a treasure chest. I also have a point system. During the day students earn tallies for their work and behavior. At the end of the day they recieve rewards. They are very excited about them.
Managing Behavior:
I have a portable behavior chart that I can take anywhere. I also have a stationary chart where students flip their cards from green to yellow to red. Before going on yellow, they have two warnings. I use popsicle sticks that they put into their chart pockets as warnings.
Some of the behavior charts used:
Some students need a little help with their behavior. I use different charts to accomodate their needs.
